Not Busy. Fruitful.

For the next two weeks my to-do list as a mom, ministry leader, and consultant is overflowing and my schedule is packed as tightly as 24 hours in a day allows. All of it is good and pleasing to the Lord and worthy of doing, but it also makes me feel busy. And I don’t know about you, but when I feel busy, I am often tempted to go into “get-er-done” mode.

When I’m in “get-er-done” mode…

😳 Sometimes I short-change or even skip my quiet time with God in the mornings.

😳 Sometimes I forget to ask for God’s guidance and blessing before starting a task or meeting.

😳 Sometimes I become short with the people working alongside me, seeking to check boxes without checking that hearts and minds are tended to first.

I have a feeling I’m not alone in experiencing the unhealthy attitudes and actions that accompany a sense of busyness.

But sweet friends, I don’t want to just be a woman with a completed checklist. I want to be a woman with a basket full of God’s blessings that will nourish my family and my friends and everyone I encounter. I don’t want to be busy. I want to be fruitful.

🙏 Father God, as the activity of the next two weeks unfolds, I want to keep You at the center of it all. Help me see with Your eyes and love with Your heart and work with Your hands. Guide the conversations that are had and the decisions that are made. Let all that is done be done in Your will and Your way for Your glory and Your Kingdom. Help me to lead when You want me to lead others and to follow when You want me to follow another. I submit my will to Yours in all tasks, even those that may seem mundane or secular, for all things are under Your sovereignty and dominion. May the deeds of my hands and the words of my lips bless Your heart. May the work that is done be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏

  1. My to-do list is very similar to yours. This was a helpful reminder. And waking up to a sick baby this morning just adds to the pressure. I’m praying your prayer alongside you! May God bless your ministries.
