Strength is for Service

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”

Romans 15:1-2 (MSG)

Believer, whether it be strength of body, strength of wealth, strength of mind, or strength of spirit, strength is granted to us for one reason and one reason only: that we may better serve others and in doing so bear witness of the greatness of God, giving all glory to His name.

When we use what we are given for our own comfort, or worse, to press others down and puff ourselves up, we put ourselves on the wrong side of scripture and therefore on the wrong side of God.

Now, I’m not sure about anyone else, but on the wrong side of God is the last place I ever want to be. Sweet friend, let us stay on the right side by doing that which God declares is right:

  • Let us serve one another each day with every bit of strength we have knowing that if we serve as God wills, He will supplement our strength with His mighty hand (Psalm 138:3, Isaiah 41:10, Philippians 4:13).
  • Let us speak truth over the lies of corruption knowing that God’s light will break through in even the darkest of places (Ephesians 4:15, Proverbs 8:7, Psalm 15:2).
  • Let us push back against the damaging wave of self-interest sweeping through our land knowing that Jesus Christ, our model in service, sacrificed Himself for us and forever defined love by His willingness to give His all for us (Hebrews 13:16, Ephesians 5:2, Romans 12:1, John 15:16).

Beloved, in all things, let us remember that we are representatives of Christ on earth, sent to share the good news in word and deed.

Whether we serve as masses or as individuals, let us never tire of serving.

Let us never tire of doing that which is right.
