If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:9-13
Sweet friends, I am so very thankful for the simple road that God has made for us to realize a life of peace on earth and a joyous eternity with Him.
Throughout history man has tried to put additional qualifications on salvation:
- wear certain clothes,
- don’t eat certain foods,
- pay money to have sins absolved,
- only read from a certain Bible,
- don’t ask for salvation until you have your life in order
- only a clergyman can forgive you…
BUT when we look at God’s Word, none of those qualifications are necessary.
Jesus Christ died for us as we are, even at our most wretched, and He accepts our faith as we are (John 3:16; Romans 5:8-9) .
God made it so simple: believe on Him in your heart and declare Jesus as your Lord and Savior with your mouth.
No strings, no money, no works, no special clothes or service required.
Salvation is free; we need only believe Jesus is the Son of God, accept His sacrifice for our sin, and declare our faith in God as Lord of all!
Now, that’s not to say that being saved doesn’t bring about some of the things listed above. As your love and respect for the Lord grows, you will want to order your life more like Christ’s, often meaning changes will come in your wardrobe, speech, diet, and more.
For example, the closer I grew to God in my late 20s, the more convicted I felt to clean up my mouth, not just of foul words I picked up in college, but of gossip, criticism, and complaint as well. I felt the pull to speak praises instead of curses, hope instead of critique, and peace instead of confrontation.
In my mid-30s, I changed how I spend my time. I used to spend a lot of time escaping into fiction books or tv shows. Now, I love to spend my time serving God and others, going to choir practice, teaching Sunday school, listening to one of our pastors deliver God’s message twice a week, fellowshipping and studying the Word in my ladies’ group. I love spending time with new people and strangers now more too. I feel less isolated in general, more peaceful, more open.
God’s saving grace is miraculous, simple and instantaneous upon our cry to Him.
The transformation He works in us is lifelong.
What transformation have you seen in your life?
How are you allowing God to make changes in you?
Every day as we grow closer, God shows us more of His wonderous glory and grace.
Every day is an opportunity to love Him more deeply than the day before!
Every day a day in which we are able to stand amazed at the mighty works of His hands!
