I’m still praying over and working on a writing plan for 2024, but God put the post below from 2022 on my heart as a reminder to learn from the past but not to live there. Enjoy, friend, and I hope to be writing for you more regularly soon.
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert…”
Isaiah 43:18-19
Could’ve. Would’ve. Should’ve.
Three contractions that all too often come packaged with regret.
- That could’ve gone better.
- Wish I would’ve done better.
- I should’ve been better.
If I had a dollar for every one of those statements in my life…
Am I right?
But sweet friend, our God does not call us to regret the things of old.
Our great and gracious God calls us to forget the things of old.
In Isaiah 43:18, God tells us to “remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old”.
Centuries later through the Apostle Paul, God reminds us to “forget those things which are behind” (Philippians 3:13-14).
Dear heart, we’re all familiar with the cute saying, “Give to God and go to sleep.”. but may I suggest one more line?
Give it to God. Go to sleep. Leave it with Him in the morning.
Beloved, God wants to do a new thing in you, through you, and for you and He can do it in spite of any regrets you’re still dragging around, but take it from a Sister, you’re in a much better place to see the new thing He’s doing when you aren’t buried under a mountain of regret.
Every day is a good day for doing a new thing. Why not make that day today?
Give your past to God. Ask Him to forgive what needs forgiving. He’ll forgive it and forget it – removing it as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Then, leave it with Him and step into the new thing He has just for you.
I won’t be posting regularly again until after the new year begins. To avoid missing a post when I start again, please subscribe via email below.
