Post 2 – Revisiting the Thankful for His Many Names Series

In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

Elohim, pronounced [el-oh-heem], is the first name by which God introduces Himself to us in His holy word. Elohim, meaning “Creator, Mighty and Strong”, is also a plural form denoting the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)¹ and appears in the Old Testament over 2,000 times².

Some highlights of its use include:

For this is what the Lord says—
he who created the heavens,
    he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth,
    he founded it;
he did not create it to be empty,
    but formed it to be inhabited—
he says:
“I am the Lord,
    and there is no other."
Isaiah 45:18

What does this name of God mean for us?

Sweet friend, our God fashioned and made the very earth and everything on it and in it – including you! Nothing is too hard for Him – and that includes your problems! The skies proclaim the work of His hands – work that He completes so that you can know Him (Deuteronomy 4:32-40)!

Our God is Elohim – Mighty and Strong, the Creator! Though Adam and Eve separated mankind from God through disobedience, through Jesus Christ, God created the way for us to be reunited in fellowship with Him.

Though our own sins, our disobedience, occasionally impede our walk with Him, because He is strong and mighty, conquering death itself, nothing will separate us from Him again (Romans 8:38-39).

Dear heart, if that’s not a reason to praise and thank Him, I don’t know what is!

Are you bound in chains and need release? God will create a way!

Are you facing a mountain you can’t scale? God will create a way!

Are you in need of healing? God will create a miracle or a treatment!

Whatever you need, our God, Elohim, is able to create it! Whatever you face, our God, Elohim, is Mighty and Strong to save you from it!

Strong and mighty God, we praise Your name of Elohim! Thank You for revealing Yourself to us as Creator! You created not only the world we live in and the Heaven we hope for, but each and every one of us – wonderfully and fearfully – for a purpose, on purpose – to love us and be with us! We thank you for creating a way that we can be with You always! We worship You for the mighty works of Your hands! We celebrate the blessing of sharing Your wonderous works with others to bring glory to Your name!
