Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20 CSB
To get us started today, take a moment to read the following statements from 2 Corinthians 5:20 aloud:
- I am an ambassador for Christ. I represent Christ to those around me.
- God makes His appeal through me. God uses my life to tell others about Him.
- I plead with those around me on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.”
Sweet friend, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God gives us a new name. He identifies us as an ambassador for Christ.
To quote the inspiration for this site, God tells us to let the redeemed of the Lord say so! (Psalm 107:2). He says we are Christ’s ambassadors and charges us with letting others know about the redemption found in Christ.
Furthermore, God says of those who believe on Him:
“Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.
Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.” – Psalm 107:31-32
God calls on those whom He has redeemed, those He has made ambassadors, to make His name known wherever people are gathered, to praise Him in the presence of our elders and leaders.
Most dictionary definitions of the word ambassador include a phrase like “someone who represents their nation in a foreign country”.
As ambassadors for Christ, we also represent God’s Kingdom. This means that the world is foreign soil to us because Heaven is our home.
Everywhere we go, to every person we meet, we are representatives of Jesus Christ, of His saving grace, of His incredible love, of His selfless sacrifice. We are representatives of God’s Kingdom to a foreign land; we ought to look differently than the world, speak differently than the world, showcase what God’s Kingdom has to offer and how it is far better than what the world offers.
Meditating on the verses above and what it means to be an ambassador, I must ask myself, and I hope you’ll ask yourself as well:
Am I a good ambassador for Christ? for God’s Kingdom?
When other people look at me, talk with me, see me in action, can they see Jesus represented in me? Can they tell that I am not “from around here”, that I am foreign to the rest of the world?
Beloved, as we reflect on these questions today, let us remember that God has already called those who have accepted Christ, ambassadors for Christ. It is not a name we can choose to accept. By accepting Christ, it is already your name. It is already my name. We are ambassadors for Christ and of God’s Kingdom. To the world our lives are a reflection of the Savior and of the Father and His Kingdom. The accuracy of that reflection is entirely up to us, the words we choose, the actions we take and the actions we do not take.
May we choose this day and each day to represent our Savior well, to represent His Kingdom well. May we be good ambassadors, drawing others to God’s Kingdom, proclaiming to all the world that He who has redeemed us from the hand of the enemy is good, that His love and His Kingdom endures forever!
