God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
Exodus 3:14
Sweet friends, aren’t you so glad that God is Who He says He is?
I know I’m thankful that it is not my responsibility to define God, that He doesn’t make me figure out who He is.
I’m so thankful that His Word tells us exactly Who He is:
- God is the Creator of all things (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16).
- God is our King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty, the first and the last, the only God (Isaiah 44:6).
- God is light (1 John 1:5).
- God is love (1 John 4:8).
- God is the Sovereign Lord and there is none like Him (2 Samuel 7:22).
- God is good (Psalm 34:8).
- God is forgiving (Psalm 86:5).
- God is holy (Isaiah 43:15).
And the list goes on and on.
Truly friends, God is not so mysterious as we like to think.
Yes, His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts, but even so, He constantly seeks to make Himself known to us through His Word (John 1:1), through His Son Jesus (Matthew 11:27; Hebrews 1:1-3), through Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10; John 14:26), through His creation (Psalm 19:16).
This Sunday morning, as we prepare our hearts and minds to worship in the Lord’s house, let us reflect on Who God is, for only when we come to know Him for Who He says He is can we fully understand His love for us and love Him completely in return.
I want to share a song this morning that helps me prepare my heart and mind for worship, This is Our God by Phil Wickham:
God bless you friends and may He reveal Himself to you more and more this day and each day!
