Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!
Acts 16:25-26
As we near July 4th in America, many church services this morning will place a clear emphasis on celebrating our freedom. And it is good to be thankful for our freedom and thankful for the men and women who have helped secure and protect our freedom over the years.
As we celebrate freedom, let us remember first and foremost the One who has set us free indeed. Without our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, without the redemptive love of God the Father, we would be in terrible bondage to sin and to shame.
Let us be like Paul and Silas, praying and singing hymns to God knowing that in God alone is our rescue, our freedom, and our life.
As we meditate on this truth today, consider checking out one of my favorite songs to lift up when I want to praise God specifically for freedom, Praise Opens Prison Doors by CAIN.
