Surrending Burdens

” Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Some days does it feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders?

Whether you’re part of the support system for one person or for 100s of people or more, the weight of so many hurts and needs – in addition to your own – can really sink in some days and make not just your body, but even your soul so very, very tired.

It’s common in those soul weary times to lose perspective, to lose hope, to stumble through the day in pain or shock or on autopilot.

Blessedly, God calls us to be uncommon.

When these soul wearying times come, I am reminded of how often in the New Testament Jesus went off alone to pray. He bore the weight of every human soul for all time; a weight immeasurably heavier than any I could bear. He bore that immense weight and He did not flag in His mission or lose hope or fall into autopilot. No sweet friends, He did none of these common things.

What did He do?

👉 He fell back into the arms of the Father!
👉 He prayed.
👉 He sought guidance, comfort, and help.
👉 He created the way for us to do the same.

Because of the blood of Jesus Christ we need not carry the weight of the world on our shoulders.

Our Savior and Risen Lord calls all who are weary to come to Him and He will give us rest. He calls to us to come to Him for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Yoked to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we do not toil alone, we do not bear our burdens or the burdens of those we support on our frail human shoulders.

Oh Brothers and Sisters, He bears all of the burdens we surrender to Him and we, we bear only the joy of being yoked to the One who is peace and love and light.

In our heritage of independence (and may I say stubbornness), we all too often try to shoulder that which is not ours to bear. I know I’m guilty of it more frequently than I care to recognize. All too often, we try to bear burdens and heal hurts that we are called to surrender to the Lord and we wear ourselves out.

Children of God, there’s no need to be hollowed out or torn up or wearied by the burdens of this world one second longer.

Withdraw, as our Lord and Savior did so many times, withdraw to the mercy seat, to the throne of God, withdraw to Him and be renewed!

Be renewed and be amazed by the good works He will do in you and through you!

He is always just a prayer away.

Will you surrender to Him today?
Will you be released from the weight that only He can bear?
Will you let Him give you rest?
