“Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
John 19:28-30
Sweet friends, three of the greatest words in all of history are: It is finished.
With those three simple words, the power of sin was overcome.
Romans 6:9-11 says, “We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
With those three simple words, the power of death was defeated.
1 Peter 2:24 says “ He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”.
Having conquered sin and death, our Lord and Savior returned to the Father’s side in Heaven.
Mark 16:19 tells us that “When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with His disciples, He was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”
Jesus is ALIVE and sitting at the right hand of the Father, advocating for you and for me; defending us from the accusations of the enemy, all day, every day.
Romans 8:33-34 reminds us “Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.”
Dear heart, Jesus sits at God’s right hand, interceding for me and for you!
God in His great love for us, made the cross of Christ a pathway for us to be free from the condemnation of the enemy, to have power over sin on this earth, to know only eternal peace and joy when this earthly life is over.
Beloved, it. is. finished.
The cross has the final word!
