“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Matthew 7:24-27
Sweet friends, Jesus paid the ultimate price for us. He gave His life so that we could live.
In the Old Testament, a sacrifice had to be made as payment for sin. A lamb was killed and blood was shed.
Exodus 29:38-39 says “These are the sacrifices you are to offer regularly on the altar. Each day, offer two lambs that are a year old, one in the morning and the other in the evening.” (NLT)
God’s chosen people did this day in and day out for generations and generations, but their sin was never fully washed away.
Hebrews 10:11 tells us that before Jesus came “All Jewish religious leaders stood every day killing animals and giving gifts on the altar. They gave the same gifts over and over again, but these gifts cannot take away sins.” (NLV)
But Jesus sacrificed His own life to pay for all of our sin all at once.
1 John 2:2 tells us that Jesus “is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” (NIV)
Hebrews 10:10 tells us that “Our sins are washed away and we are made clean because Christ gave His own body as a gift to God. He did this once for all time.” (NLV)
Jesus died on the cross just like God planned. But that was not the end of the story!
1 Peter 3:18 says that “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.” (NLT)
God conquered sin and death, and raised Jesus from the dead. That is the reason we praise His name! THAT is the reason we celebrate.
He died so we could have eternal life with Him.
Because He lives, we have a firm foundation that we can build our lives on!
