The Power of the Cross (1)

The cross is a symbol that can be seen all over the world.
It is not only a symbol of Christianity, but of God’s enormous love and compassion for us.
Romans 5:6-11 tells that “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.”
Sweet friend, simply put – sin separates us from God.
Romans 6:23 tells us that “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord”. (NLT)
But dear heart, God’s love for us is so great that He had a plan to overcome sin AND death.
God the Father sent His only Son, Jesus, to pay the price for us. Jesus took our punishment Himself.
Jesus suffered the cruelest of punishments, mocked, beaten, tortured, and nailed to a cross to die – not because of anything He had done, but because of what people had done and what future people (that’s you and me too) would do.
Colossians 2:13-15 says it clearly:
“You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed[d] the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross..”
Beloved, God made you alive with Christ!
John 3:16 tells us that “For God so loved the world” — that includes YOU — “that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.”!
The free gift of God is eternal life! Given to whoever would accept it!
Praise God for His free gift of eternal life!
Thank you Jesus for making God’s gift available to whoever will accept it!
