God Does Not Hide

God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

Numbers 23:19

Sweet friends, don’t you just love how God defines Himself for us in His Word? How He constantly reaches out to us through His Word and His wonderous works so we can know Him better?

Whew, I certainly do.

Today, I find myself re-reading God’s reminder to us in Numbers 23:19. In this verse, God reminds us that He is not a man and so He does not lie, nor does He change His mind on whims. His promises are true and His decisions firmly for our good. As I reflect on His reminders, I’m also drawn to Hebrews 6:10:

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

In this verse, God gives another insight into who He is; He is just. He sees the work we do out of love for Him and He will not forget it.

When we put Hebrews 6:10 in context with Numbers 23:19, we gain an even clearer picture of who God is:

God never lies, so when He says He won’t forget what we have done to love Him and to show His love to others, He really won’t forget.

Beloved, we can take that promise to the bank.

God does not change His mind and He is just; therefore, what He has promised us regarding the outcome of our labors is 100% true. The outcome of our labors of love will be good and right and fair. He even defines love for us (I Corinthians 13) so that we know exactly how to show Him love and how to show others love. God does all of these things because He wants us to KNOW Him and to be SUCCESSFUL in the tasks that He has set for us.

Now, think on a broader scale.

When God tells us in Psalms 30:5 and Lamentations 3:23 that hardships will not last forever and that joy and mercy can be found new each day – He means that because He does not lie, does not change His mind, does not forget, and does not act unjustly.

This means our troubles really are temporary!

In Romans 10:12 when God tells us that His richness is available to all who call on His name to be saved, He isn’t lying. He hasn’t changed His mind or forgotten. He is just and will do as He promised!

Relief and comfort really are just one call away!

Dear heart, sometimes it might feel like our efforts are underappreciated or even unnoticed all together. To our human eyes it might feel like we are quite alone on this journey. But oh Siblings take heart!

We serve a living God who is just and true and infinitely loving! What He says He will do, He will do!

All we need to do is to stop looking with man’s eyes and thinking with man’s philosophy and start looking with God’s eyes and thinking with God’s Word as our center and our compass. Dig into the history and the love song and the truth that He given us. Read His Word cover to cover, study it, pray it over with Him, and gain a fuller context of who He is and how amazingly good He is!

We may never grasp the entire picture of who He is until we are before Him face to face, BUT God, God wants us to know Him as fully, love Him as fully, love others as fully, as we possibly can while we are here on this earth AND He has given us everything we need to do it: His Word, His Holy Spirit, His Son Jesus Christ. He will keep His promises! He will not forget!

Today let us all fully commit to keeping our promises to Him as well.

  • Let us not forget to sing His praises and learn more about Him each day. Let us not grow weary of doing good.
  • Let us not forget to gather and fellowship in His name.
  • Let us firmly hold to the truths that He has taught us.
  • Let us seek more truths from His Word that we may grow more completely in Him.
  • Let us pray “Your will be done” and show we mean it through our actions.
  • Let us work tirelessly to become a people who do not lie and are not double minded, who do not forget and are not unjust.
  • Let us be in truth a mirror image of our Father!
