2-18-23 Saturday Encouragement

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

A common belief is that if you are a “good enough person” or do enough “good works” that God will bless your life and you’ll go to Heaven when you die. I’ll admit, sometimes that belief creeps back up in my life, and I have to come back to Ephesians 2:8-9 to be reminded that salvation isn’t earned, it’s given freely!

The world would have us wear ourselves out straining and striving to earn God’s love and salvation, BUT God – how I love those words! – God doesn’t make us work for our salvation. The Bible doesn’t tell us to do good works in order to be saved.

Sweet friend, salvation comes by faith not works. Salvation is freely given by the grace of God. Once we accept the gift of salvation, then we want to do good works because we understand how much God loves us and we want to extend that love to others, to honor God by paying His love forward.

Today I am thankful for the clarity of God’s Word that enables us to dispel falsehood and fully embrace the free gift of salvation. I am grateful that I do not have to earn His love or His salvation because I could never pay the price with my imperfect self.

I praise His name for giving me opportunities to show Him love and to show His love to others!

Blessed be the name of the Lord!
