2-4-23 Saturday Encouragement

As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9 (NLT)

When asked which commandment was most important, Christ taught that first and foremost we should love God followed by love others (Matthew 22:36-40).

He taught that all of the other commandments hinge on these two.

You see, the first 3 Commandments clearly focus on loving God:

  • You shall have no other gods before Me.
  • You shall make no idols.
  • You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

When we love God, we put Him first and don’t give more of our affection or time or obedience to another other than Him. We don’t put up idols (like our house or car or career over our focus on Him). We also respect His name and don’t use it curse or blaspheme.

Then, because we love God and recognize that His way is best, we also follow the rest of His Commandments.

The other 7 of which hinge on loving others.

Consider the 8th, 9th, and 10th Commandments:

  • You shall not steal.
  • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  • You shall not covet.

When we love other people, we do not steal from them, or slander their names or lie about them, or envy their success and well-being.

Why?

Because we love other people and want only good things for them.

When we set our hearts and minds on God, we learn to love as God loves, forgive as God forgives, be merciful and graceful as God is filled with grace and mercy.

As a result of being loved by God, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Sweet friend, choose today to walk in God’s glorious light.

Dear heart, let His light shine through you for all the world to see.
