1-29-23 Sunday Encouragement

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Winter is not my favorite season – at all.

Once Christmas passes, I’m ready for spring. In full transparency, I’m already “window” shopping for this year’s Easter dress.

West Virginia winters just always seems so gray and so very, very slow.

But spring – spring holds such promise! Not just of warmth and color, but of life – new life budding from branches, sprouting up from the ground, peeping out of nests and burrows.

If I were in charge of the seasons, I would jump straight from a crisp, white Christmas to a temperate, sunny, flower-filled January.

But – as much as I long for the quick passing of winter – this English major knows just enough about biology to know that the freezing temperatures and shortened hours of daylight are what many plants need to grow.

Tucked away under the dirt bulbs and seeds are receiving exactly what they need to burst forth in due time as beautiful flowers and shrubs.

And that’s the key phrase friends, “in due time”.

Winter may seem painfully slow to me. The promise of spring may seem dreadfully far away.

Whether it’s the change of a physical season or a spiritual one, we’re all waiting on something.

Beloved, whatever you’re waiting on may seem painfully slow, and God’s promise over your situation may seem dreadfully far away.

But our God is not slow in keeping His promises to us.

While we’re waiting, He’s working.

We can’t see what’s happening under the ground, but we trust that when we plant a bulb in the fall, it will bloom in the spring. Miracles start in the dead of winter. Growth happens in the deep darkness underground.

Wait patiently on God for God has always been patient with us.

His promises will come to pass and friend, you can hold tight to them knowing that in due time, He will make all things new.
