Don’t Give Up

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

God always knows when I need reminding of one of His truths. I’ve written on this topic before, but it comes up so often in our lives, that it warrants revisiting from time to time.

Sometimes what we do in our careers, in our ministry or charity work, as a parent, or even as a citizen in general just doesn’t feel like it’s making a very big difference.

Sometimes we feel about as helpful as a band-aid on a broken leg or a cork stuck in an always leaking dam.

BUT GOD – great is His name and even greater is His patience with us! – God reminds us that what we do matters, that even when we can’t see it or feel it, we are making a difference. He tells us not to grow weary of doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Parents, raising kids is confusing and frustrating sometimes. Sometimes it feels like they aren’t listening or aren’t picking up the lesson or the value you’re trying to instill.

  • Have patience as our God is patient.
  • Keep trying.

One day your kids will understand and appreciate what you teach them.

Employee, ministry worker, charitable giver, sometimes the mountain of need doesn’t appear to get any smaller despite our best efforts. Sometimes the need appears bigger after you finish a helpful project than it was when you started because you found more need along the way that you didn’t know about before.

  • Keep serving.
  • Keep giving.
  • Keep loving.

You may not end world hunger in your lifetime, but you will end hunger for someone in the world and that means the world to them. You may not wipe out poverty for everyone, but you can ensure everyone you serve knows that they are worthy and have great value.

Citizen, sometimes you look around and wonder what this world has come to. You support what you think is good and helpful only to find out that someone else thinks the same plan or policy or organization is vile and harmful. You don’t understand where they’re coming from or what they’re on about, and they don’t understand you either and that can be frightening and frustrating. You don’t know how to do good when no one seems to agree on what good is.

  • Try looking at good as God defines good.
  • Trust that good will prevail.
  • Be compassionate and patient.
  • Listen to the discernment of Holy Spirit above the distractions of this world.

Goodness will come when we set fear and frustration aside and work our problems God’s way.

Dear heart, whatever role in life wears you out somedays, do not give up.

God is our strength and our help.

He is our rest and our rescue.

Do not weary of doing good, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest.
