Grace Draws Us Closer

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Titus 2:11-14

Grace – the unmerited favor of God.

Grace – extended to all people through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Grace – the reason that we are able, no matter what, to draw close to God.

Grace – the excuse that the enemy would have us use to stray from God.

Ouch. That last one bites a bit doesn’t it?

Oh sweet friend, how precious is the reminder above from Paul to Titus? Grace teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions.

The enemy would have us believe that God’s grace, the unmerited favor that He extends to us again and again, means that we can live our lives however we want, do whatever we want, even if that means living sinfully.

But God – how great are those two words! – God makes it clear through Paul’s letter to Titus that His grace is for our salvation, to make us a purified people, a people who choose to do what is good.

Dear heart, God is the God who always takes us back, but we show our love for God by not intentionally abusing His grace, by not knowingly putting Him in a position to need to take us back.

We show God our love by putting on self-control, living upright and godly lives! We show God our love by leaning into His grace so we can draw closer to Him, not stray from Him.

Lord help Your children embrace Your grace for godly living!

Lead us away from the temptation to abuse Your grace for worldly gains!
