Behold, I am doing a new thing…

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert…”

Isaiah 43:18-19

Am I the only one who sees the word “behold” in the Bible and reads it with some extra emphasis?

Like God is saying, “Hey, look at this, watch this!”.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, but if I am, try it on the verse above – really hit that “behold” with everything you’ve got.

Feels good doesn’t it?

Sweet friend, that’s because God really wants you to know that He’s doing a new thing. He doesn’t want you to be slightly aware of Him or somewhat familiar with Him – God wants you to stop dead in your tracks, throw up your head, and fix your eyes on Him and what He’s doing in you, through you, and for you.

Give that extra emphasis another try on John 1:29.

The next day he (John the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

Name inserted for context

Behold, the Lamb of God…

Oh dear heart, what a moment that must have been! So many in the crowd that day must have thrown up their heads from their conversations and tasks to fix their eyes upon our Savior, the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ!

And yet, so many must have kept their heads down, too focused on their daily concerns to raise their eyes to gaze upon the One who could handle all their wants and needs with ease.

Beloved, each day when you awake God is proclaiming, “BEHOLD”.

Each day He is filling your life with opportunities to see His hands at work, to hear His heart speak to yours, to do a new thing in you, through you, and for you.

Each day you have the opportunity to behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Will you raise your eyes from your daily to-do list? Will you throw up your head and fix your gaze upon the Son of God?

Christian, this earthly life is too short to miss even one opportunity to behold our great and mighty God at work.

May we awake each and every day eagerly watching for God’s hand, listening for His voice, and seeking opportunities to proclaim, “Behold, the Lamb of God” so those around us may see the transforming power of the One who takes away the sin of the world!
