I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.
Jeremiah 24:7
What could be so important to God that He would talk about it in His Word over 800 times?
What if I told you it was our hearts?
That’s right. Your heart and my heart.
Sweet friend, the Bible discusses our hearts over 800 times because God cares deeply about the status of our hearts.
The term “whole heart” comes up so often and is mirrored with other phrases like “all your heart” and “heartily” because God wants us to understand that it’s when we are whole-hearted that we are best suited to experience all He has to give us; it’s when we focus with all of our hearts on His will that we can achieve all of the good works that He has designed in advance for us to do.
Take a look at the scripture address shared above again: Jeremiah 24:7.
24:7 – Does anyone else feel like that can’t be a coincidence?
God has given us a heart to know Him – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
He is our God and we are His people – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Dear heart, are you adrift today? Discouraged? Distracted? Are you longing for something that always seems just out of reach? Is there a hole inside that nothing seems to fill, that is never quite at ease, never satisfied?
I’ll be honest, this is where I find myself some days, pondering if what’s missing, if what finds me at times ill at ease, adrift, discouraged, distracted…is a heart that isn’t fully focused on God 24/7.
I wonder, if we ask God to reveal to us any part of ourselves that we might be holding back, any distraction that might be depleting our focus on Him, what would He show us?
Dear heart, God knows you. He loves you, and He is calling your heart to Him, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If we call on Him, we can trust that God will show us how to focus on Him 24 hours a day and live in the victory He has prepared for His people 7 days a week.
