A Prayer for a New Week

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:24-26

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the clear pathway that you have created for us through your Son Jesus Christ that allows us to be in constant communion with You.

Savior and Lord, I give You thanks beyond measure for paying the ultimate price on the cross, a price I could never pay myself, that I might live, not just a life eternal, but that I might also live life more abundantly while I walk this earth as well.

Father, as I begin a new week, I want to do better than last week at being more others-centered. I commit myself to You, to think of others first and serve You by serving them. Help me do better fulfilling that commitment every day.

Lord, I thank you for all that you have done for me and that through my story, the good, the bad, the ugly, I am able to share You with others because through it all You held me in Your hands.

Father, this day my heart goes out to those who are struggling in some way or another. I know Father that You are pouring comfort and strength over them, and I pray Lord that You help them to stay strong in the face of adversity and to focus on You Lord for all of their needs.

Great God of Mercy, I pray that You work in the hearts and minds of those in this world who have caused or plan to cause others pain or hardship and expunge from their hearts and minds the bitterness, hate, madness, whatever has consumed them, so that they may put aside the darkness, seek forgiveness, repent, turn their lives around, and follow You. It may not be the justice that mankind would seek, and it may not be a popular prayer to make for those who have done or plan to do terrible things. But God, I know it is Your will that all will have the change of heart to repent; it is the mercy that You grant all sinners – even the lowest of the low – and Lord, if I ever lost my way so badly that I desired evil for others, I would want someone to pray for my redemption, so Father I pray that these souls find You before it is too late.

Though the days may appear to be growing darker, help Your children Lord to remember and maintain focus on the joy of serving You and serving others. Though some days our cross feels heavier than others, let us not put it down, but instead hoist it higher that we might continue to glorify You and carry on in Your name. I have nothing Lord to give in exchange for my soul or to repay the price that Christ paid for me on Calvary except my hands and my feet, my words, my works, and my life. These Father I offer up to you without regard to myself.

Lord may all that I do please You this day and all days to come. You are my source of light, my rock, my redeemer. All I have to give is yours. Here I am, send me. All these things I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen (let it be so now).
