Be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Faced with all of the problems of this world, it can be tempting to think of ourselves as too small to do anything about them. At times I know I have felt as though I am just sticking duct tape over holes and praying the dam holds. Often times, these thoughts have led to defeatism and frustration in my life. I’m betting you’ve had similar experiences.
Brave Brother, Strong Sister, allow me to speak this truth over you today:
You can’t save the world. And that’s okay.
Child of God, there’s no reason to feel defeated or frustrated by the problems of this world. In fact, the sooner you embrace that you are indeed only one person and that you cannot in fact save the whole world, the sooner you can begin to experience freedom and peace. How?
By remembering two simple words: BUT GOD.
BUT God, God has already put a plan in place to save the whole world through the birth, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. God isn’t asking you to save the world, BUT He does have a role for you to play in His great plan.
Dear heart, God has made us each for a unique purpose in His grand design.
For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.
Ephesians 2:10
What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him? For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor.
Psalm 8:4-5
He has crowned us with glory and honor.
He has called us to be His sons and daughters.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:12
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11
We don’t always know each step of His plan, but we can trust in His promise that it is a perfect plan.
Knowing who He says we are and what we are all called to do – love Him, love others, do good, make disciples – we are able to boldly face each day with joy and praising because we have a purpose, a goal, a clear path set by God’s will and guided by how we know Jesus would act and speak (Matthew 22:36-40; I Peter 4:8; Colossians 1:9-10′ Matthew 28:19). We are able to use the gifts He has given us to do good and bring glory to His name (1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corinthians 12).
So, you don’t know what today holds in store? That’s okay. I don’t either.
BUT we do know what God has given us all to do in general terms (see above) and we know that when the time comes for something specifically unique for me or for you to do that He has already equipped us to do it because His word is all we need in any situation (2 Timothy 3:16).
Beloved, we may only each be one person, but God has made us mighty, called us for a purpose, and on His promises we can stand tall and walk into any situation, any task, and ENTHUSIASTICALLY work for the Lord knowing that the work, no matter how small, fits into His plan and creates goodness and blessing for someone, somewhere.
Just think, if we all stand tall on His promises and follow His lead in loving others and His will in our actions, then we can ALL work enthusiastically for Him and not only know, but SEE through our combined efforts real change in the world around us.
Christian, don’t give up. Don’t give in. Keep learning. Keep growing. In all you do work in His will for His glory, and I testify to you this day that your life will be forever changed for the better with greater peace and deeper joy.
