10% of “Nuthin’” is Still “Nuthin”

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.

Ephesians 3:20

About 20 years ago, I watched this funky sci-fi western called “Firefly”. It had an eclectic storyline and unique characters, so naturally it was one of those shows that Fox canceled after one season. Anyhow…there was this character named Jayne who was a simpleton and a genius at the same time, and one of his lines that this math-anxious English major has always remembered is, “Ten percent of nuthin’ is nuthin’”. Honestly, I might have performed better in math had I studied on the Serenity (the spaceship flown by the motley crew of space cowboys/girls).

All show references aside though, 10% of nothing is nothing.

Something I’ve learned is that if you never try, you’ll always get “nuthin”.

If you try your hardest, even if you only get 10% back from your effort that’s something and something is more than nothing.

Sweet friend, what new endeavor have you been thinking about or praying about, but are afraid to try? Have you offered your ideas or your fears to God?

Has He given you the green light to go forward?

If so, do not fear how it will turn out, move forward knowing that God makes all things possible, that He can do abundantly more than we could ever imagine.

Maybe God is giving you the yellow light?

If so, be still, keep listening, revise your ideas or plans and present them again. He may have a plan to refine yours for greater outcomes or He may have a crew member to add or just a better time to start. Do not lose heart – “wait” is not “no”.

Are you getting the red light?

If so, stop. God has a different goal for you. It may feel like “nuthin” right now, but God has shown us time again that His plans are to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11). Keep listening. Keep following Him. God will turn “nuthin” into something grand in His time.

Dear heart, no matter the light, green, yellow, or red, rest easy knowing that God has a plan for you, He wants to bring you joy and life and peace (John 10:10). He is able to do abundantly more than you can ask or think.

God does the impossible and that makes those who follow Him mighty!
