“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10
Beloved, sometimes I struggle with the lies of “not enough”. I know that sometimes you struggle with them too, maybe you’re struggling with them right now. After all, none of us are a stranger to them. You know how they go:
I’m not smart enough. I’m not good enough. I’m not popular enough. I’m not skilled enough. Sometimes it simply feels like: I’m not enough.
The lies of not enough can cripple us, can paralyze us at times even. They usually come when we’re about to try something new and they plague us with fear that maybe we shouldn’t actually try at all. Sometimes they come after we’ve tried for something and it didn’t work out as we had planned; the lies of not enough deal a mighty blow when they come with the sting of rejection as well.
Right now, let’s take a moment to identify our lies of not enough. Just a quick moment mind you. We’re bringing those lies into the light, not taking time to wallow about in them. The Good Lord knows we’ve all done too much of that as it is.
Ok, do you have your not enoughs ready?
Now, hold each not enough out in front of your mind and tell it this:
I am loved. (Jeremiah 31:3, Romans 5:8)
I am fearfully & wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
I am valuable. (Ephesians 2:10)
I have a purpose. (Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 9:17, Deuteronomy 14:2)
I have access to an endless supply of strength. (Philippians 4:13)
I have access to an infinite store of wisdom. (James 1:5)
I am enough. (Isaiah 43:4)
Dear Brothers, Sweet Sisters, repeat them all day long if you have to. I know I have before. Store them in your heart and you will always be ready to fight the lies of not enough with the unfailing truth of God’s word. I know that some of you feel like you’re in the wilderness right now, like you’re wandering from one decision to the next, one rejection to the next, filled with uncertainty and all alone.
BUT God – oh I cannot get enough of those words! – God knows your need and your destiny and He has never left you alone. He is preparing every step of the journey so that you will be complete, mature, wise, and experienced when your moment comes. And your moment will come, of that you can be sure. In fact, you have already had a lifetime of moments, some small and some big, where God has already used you to help someone else. Rest assured you will have more. Do not despair. Do not fall victim to the lies of not enough. God’s got this and God’s got you. Stay close to Him. Study. Pray. Worship. This wilderness season will pass and God will provide rest and provision along the way. Trust in Him and take wonder in the journey. You don’t have to wait for hindsight to kick in to be amazed. Be amazed today at the work He is fashioning in you! Be amazed at all the good He is doing and will do through you!
