Standing on the Promises (3)

“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

James 1:5

In “Standing on the Promises” posts 1 and 2, we examined God’s promise to fight for us (Exodus 14:14) and His promise to lift us up when we commit our way to Him (Psalms 37:5-6). Reflecting on those two promises, it occurs to me that some of my struggle to claim them comes from a concern that I don’t always know what it means to commit my way to the Lord and I really don’t know how to just be still. I can see times in my life when my lack in these areas has created unnecessary stress and strife in my life and caused me to miss seeing God’s promises fulfilled. Looking back on your own life, I imagine many of you can say the same. Some may even be able to say that it is happening right now.

Thankfully sweet friends, God has a solution to our issue. You see, God wants us to receive His promises and He knows us and our needs so very well that He builds scaffolds within His Word to ensure we don’t miss out on a single thing He wants to give us. If you’re like me and you struggle at times to know how to commit your ways to the Lord or to know how to be still, start by proclaiming and praying in alignment to God’s promise in James 1:5: God gives wisdom generously to all who ask Him. Not only does He give us wisdom, but He promises not to judge us or think badly of us for needing to ask. Our good, good Father wants His children to be wise and so He teaches us in His Word what we need to know and He will give us the wisdom to understand and apply it too! All we need to do is ask Him for help in that area.

This day, my prayer for help in that area is:

Thank You God for Your many promises. Thank You for helping us know them and access them. Your gentleness and generosity are beyond my comprehension. Your patience in teaching me is a daily blessing. Lord, I want so very badly to learn what it means to commit all of my ways to You and to demonstrate my trust in You by being still while You work. Lord, I also need help knowing when You want me to do or say something and when You want me to be still. At times in my life, my lack in this area has let my tongue wag on when it should have been silent, has busied my mind or my hands when they should have been still and I am sorry for those times Lord. Father, may Yours always be the glory and may I never cause myself or others to miss seeing You glorified because of my unwise acts. Grant me wisdom Lord to know when to act and when to be still, to know how to commit my way to You in all situations and all stages of life. This day and all days Lord, I am Yours. Forever You are glorified. Amen.
